1970 Lotus Cortina Mk2 In Mink Blue
1970 Lotus Cortina Mk2 In Mink Blue
1970 Lotus Cortina Mk2. This superb Mk II, Series 2 car was originally supplied in Blue Mink. She was subsequently painted into white with green stripe in May 1988, but then returned to Blue Mink by the following owner in May 1997 after the vehicle had suffered an engine fire at a show the previous year. She is fitted with export spec opening front quarterlight windows, although I am uncertain if these were from new, or a later upgrade.
The vehicle was first registered in January 1970 with the Milk Marketing Board in Thames Ditton. She has had 8 previous registered keepers throughout her life, spending the last 38 years with just 3 of these owners. She is known to The Lotus Cortina Register as a genuine car, having previously been owned by 2 LCR Committee Members.
A comprehensive body restoration was undertaken during the late 1990’s with full photographic record. The Lotus powerplant has been subject to a recent extensive rebuild by Vulcan Engineering at Brands Hatch using a 711M block, and now produces a peak power output of 126bhp at 5760rpm. The car is also fitted with a stainless steel Edwards Motorsport exhaust system, new front windscreen, front brakes, clutch, front suspension struts, track control arms, refurbished genuine Lotus 5½ wheels and tyres. The carbs were rebuilt and balanced by Northampton Motorsport during 2022. There is a comprehensive history file with the majority of all previous MoTs and tax discs since the late 1980’s. Mileage shown in 2012 was 105769 when the speedo was overhauled and recalibrated. It now shows 7800.
