I think all visitors to the website would agree that all RS’s are special… however, it could be argued that some are more special than others!
Case in point, this incredible Ford Escort RS1700T belonging to Brian Betteridge. We were fortunate enough to be invited to take our MK1 Escort Mexico to be displayed at the same event with the Oval Owners Club at Manor Park Classics and were positioned a stone’s throw from this incredible Ex Works RS1700T; one of only six surviving prototype cars – this one being ‘P10’ with a turbocharged version of the 1780cc four-pot BDT engine. In this specification the car was capable of 350bhp!
Ultimately, RS1700T development was shelved by Ford and a new 4wd car was developed in the shape of the Group B Ford RS200, though many parts and technologies were adapted to the RS200, not least the BDT engine.
The only thing more impressive that it’s looks was the sound of it’s engine when he fired it up and drove it out for loading at the end of the day… absolutely insane!!
If you would like to read more about the RS1700T project, have a read of Antony Ingram’s excellent article HERE.
